Immediate context: Yo Yo Ma, a well renown cellist and composer, had his article “Necessary Edges; Arts, Empathy, and Education.” in the World Post in January of 2014. Ma is famous for his many albums (somewhere close to 90) and the Grammys that he has one. Yo Yo Ma graduated from both Harvard University and Juilliard School of preforming arts.
Imposed Context: I had to read this article for English class. After reading this article I was able to participate in class and complete my assigned work.
Internal Context: Ma talks about the importance of changing the education system. The system is based off of the STEM ideas but he believes that the arts are also something that is extremely important as well. Ma believes that STEM should be turned into STEAM, the arts hold lots of important teachings and with the usage of them people will be able to reach their best potential.
